There are some stories that just stick with you when you’re a kid. Be it a ghost story or local legend told by a friend, or an epic recounting of some true event from a parent or family member, some tales just leave an impression. In the late 1950’s, on a farm nestled in rural Kentucky, Reddit user truckerslife‘s mother would have her own tale to recount to eagerly listening ears after an incredible experience as a child.
On her family farm located in the Ohio county of western Kentucky (Just 65 miles from the legendary Hopkinsville Goblin encounter!), the young girl was enjoying a pleasant day, playing and running around outside with her siblings. With the smell of what I’m sure was a delicious meal in the air, the young girl’s mother leaned out and called her children in to get something to eat.
As the kids headed in to enjoy the food their mother alerted them to, the young girl took a moment to look back at the tree line (which was said to be a good ways off) only to catch a glimpse of something truly bizarre. Standing there among the trees is what she would describe as a “Large hairy guy”. As she looked on with what one could assume was a mixture of both childhood curiosity and excitement she did the only logical thing for a polite little girl to do. She waved. Astonishingly enough the large hairy man waved back.
Filled with what was almost certainly joy at the idea of making a new friend and of course wanting to get something to eat, she ran in to tell her mother the good news. Upon reaching her mother the young girl told her that she would need to set and extra place because they had a guest coming to eat. Confused by the news her daughter had just given her, the woman headed to inspect the area where moments ago her children were playing. As she looked out, she saw and confirmed what her young daughter had seen, A large hairy figure standing out at the tree line and looking in towards their home.
Startled by this the mother sent out a few of the older boys to see who, or what the thing was. As the boys tore off down the hill, the creature headed back into the woods. When they finally arrived at the tree line they could not find any sign of the creature. Their mother did note that when the boys got to where the creature was they could have stood on each others shoulders and still not been as tall as he was.
The family never saw the creature again, although I am told that the farm is still in the family and is surrounded by miles and miles of dense woodlands, and from time to time the family experiences strange behavior from their dogs when inside the forest.
Thank you Reddit user truckerslife for letting me share your amazing family story. The Ohio county area seems to be a hairy hominid hotspot, according to The Kentucky Bigfoot Research Organization, who keep track of sightings in the state. Here is a news piece shared by YouTube channel saultrain that shows that the phenomenon is definitely alive and well.
Keep it creepy kiddos,
